Ebook Sales Up 400% at Companhia das Letras

Ebooks sales at publisher Companhia das Letras rose 400% in 2012 in comparison to 2011, as reported by Brazilian newspaper O Estado de São Paulo on Sunday. The publisher invested heavily in the digitalization of its catalog last year, assisted by Penguin, which owns 25% of Companhia das Letras. The sales boom was helped by arrival of new ebookstores and readers in Brazil just in time for Christmas shopping.

November and December have been the best months for ebook selling in Brazil, with bestsellers including Sylvia Day’s erotic title Bared to You and Steve Jobs by Walter Isaacson, which was also a bestseller in 2011.
