Brazil’s July 2012 Bestsellers Still Dominated by Agape Jr., but 50 Shades Coming

PublishNews Brazil’s July bestseller list remained virtually unchanged from the one in May. Among the top ten Brazilian authors, there are two priests (Marcelo Rossi and Fábio de Melo), two “politically incorrect guides” (one about philosophy and the other about Brazilian history) a Forbes-listed businessman (Eike Batista) and two titles from self-help bestselling author Augusto Cury.

Ágape Jr, the children’s version of the all-time best-selling book Agape, by priest Marcelo Rossi, continued in first place. One should note though that it sold in the whole month of July what Fifty Shades of Grey sold in a week after its launch this August, so it is safe to say that Ágape Jr. will not keep the first position next month, as Brazil indulges in the global Fifty Shades series fever.

The Politically Incorrect Guide to Philosophy, by Luiz Felipe Ponde came in second, following the success of its predecessor about Brazilian history, by Leonardo Narloch, which ended up in 4th this month. Best-selling self-help and fiction author Augusto Cury had two books listed in July, one in 3rd place and the other one in 6th. Eduardo Moreira’s book, a Brazilian version of The Horse Whisperer, reached 5th place.
