Irley Thiago de Oliveira, 23, left the small town of Cajazeiras, on the Northeast of Brazil, to live in Curtitiba, in the South. There, he studied literature and cinema. In his spare time, he wrote, sending his work in for small literary competitions, never winning much remarkable. Then, on evening of September 13th, de Oliveira was announced winner of the Barco a Vapor Award, changing his life. The prize is sponsored by the Fundação SM. De Oliveira and includes publication by Edições SM for the Barco a Vapor Collection, and a R$30,000 advance.
