Grupo Editorial Nacional (GEN) is the leader in the Brazilian STM book market, with revenues of US$62 million annually. The editorial group wants to keep this lead position at any price and has just acquired its 8th publishing house — Editora Pedagógica e Universitária (EPU). Mauro Koogan Lorch, president of GEN, was attracted by EPU’s extensive catalogue built over the last 60 years. The backlist coverers topics ranging from education to professional training. “The acquisition directly benefits readers, by offering them more content, but also Brazilian authors,” said Lorch. Aside from EPU, the following publishers are under GEN’s umbrella: Guanabara Koogan, Santos, LTC, Forense, Método, Forense Universitária and AC Farmacêutica.
