Saraiva has 93 stores spread across 15 states and topped US$ 600 million in revenue in 2009 — all of which makes it the #1 bookseller in Brazil. The company already sells a vast amount of books, e-books, CD’s, DVD’s, computers, toys, stationary, telephones . . . both online and in their stores. Now, Saraiva has just added yet another category to its product selection: travel.
On February 14, the retailer began selling plane tickets and travel packages and booking hotels around the world through its new Internet portal Saraiva Viagens. The company is currently discounting some travel guides to promote the new service.
